It's columbus day. And since I'm a student again, I get the night off. So, since I'm not going to school, I thought I'll have a quiet and peaceful evening at home with the kids.

Look at this picture. They are adorable and sweet. Right now, you are probably thinking "oh, that is so cool. I bet you guys had fun together" Yup, looking at this picture you would not think that quiet and peaceful are not in their vocabulary.
Let's just say it's been an interesting night.
First, they were playing Polly Pockets. All three of them, for a good hour and a half. Then things started to unravel. The bickering began, so I order the toys put away. It was nearing bed time anyway, so I figured I'd read an extra chapter of The Lion, The witch and The Wordrobe to them, and they'd go to bed happy to spend an unexpected Monday night with mom.
Well, as you might have guessed that did not happen. I got a phone call and half way through my coversation I heard a "thud.... thud, thud.... thud, thud, thud, thud" There were a few Ow's mixed in with it.
Knowing Lilly has a bad habit of tripping and falling on the stairs, I run out of the family room expecting to find her sprawled at the bottom ready to start screaming at any moment. but what I saw, well, was about the last thing I expected. I really don't know how I didn't start cracking up right then and there.
Caleb is sitting at the bottom of the steps. He's got this stunned look on his face. He is sitting inside the laundry basket, which it seems he just used to sail down the steps in. As if this is not funny enough, he tries to get up, but he gets stuck. He forgot that he handcuffed himself to the basket handle.
It took every oz of Mothering ability I had to order all three kids to their rooms, so I could slip away and crack up. I certainly don't want him to think I think this is funny, or I'd end up in the ER before long with some silly stunt meant to make me laugh.
Now, rewind to this past weekend. I caught Abby sitting at the top of the steps in the basket ready to sail down the steps. Since she knew she would get into trouble if she did it, she dared Caleb to do it. They put the handcuffs on in case he flipped, their theory was this would keep him in the basket. Then Lilly gave the final push, because Abby wanted to see him going down the stairs to see if she was missing some new adventure.
Down the steps he goes. Abby runs the other direction and Lilly starts crying, and this is when I enter the hall.
All in the 5 minutes I was on the phone. Oy.
In case you were wondering. Yes, the boy is fine, and he told his sisters NEVER to go down the stairs in a basket. Evidently the bumping down the steps hurt his butt. I'm hoping he learned his lesson, but somehow I get the feeling that this is just the begining of his 'x-treme' sports.
